Older programs: Some of my older (early 00s) games and a couple utility programs I use are not compatible with Win 10 (even in compatibility mode), while many of the new games and programs that come out are still compatible with Win 7. The way it organizes apps, ads, and info irritates me. It's clunky and boxy and looks like a bad iPad ripoff interface.
Layout: frankly (and with full acknowledgement that this is completely subjective), I hate the Win 10 layout. Personally, my reasons for preferring Windows 7 to Win 10 boil down to four factors: That being said, there are those of us who prefer for one reason or another to stick with older operating systems, knowingly accepting the risks, trials, and tribulations that will become more pronounced as the OS continues to age. Having people using legacy operating systems for unreasonable amounts of time causes all sorts of issues for OS and program developers, as you could see when Windows XP died such a slow death, despite its lack of support later in its life.
This approach is done for somewhat of a good reason: Windows 10 is the OS that is newest, most frequently up-to-date with current tech, most secure from outside threats, and that has developers actively working on it. However, Dell, Intel, and even NVIDIA have seemingly conspired to make this an incredibly difficult task for people who prefer older operating systems. I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 7000 Gaming series (7567) laptop, but there were a number of alterations I wanted to make to it: adding an SSD, adding more RAM, and swapping out the onboard OS (Windows 10) with one I like more (Windows 7). Posting this here for reference after spending an obscene amount of time trying to solve these problems with little success.ĭell and Intel have teamed up to make installing older operating systems a near-herculean task!
